CFL follow-up [RE-wrenches]

Hi folks. This thread is pretty important to your customers, even though it has nothing to do with installing systems.

What it comes down to is that we need to figure out which CFs are well-made (just as we do with RE equipment), and start getting the word out. I do know that it is (was?) possible to get good CFs.

I bought a carton of them in 1991 (about), costing about $15 each, and I have been running them on a modified square wave inverter ever since. Lots of switching on-off, and in all that time, only ONE out of the six original CFs have failed. The others are still merrily lighting the way, a couple of them buzz on my inverter, so they are in the less-used places in my home.

They were Dulux made by Osram, but as I recall the brand was purchased and at least for awhile made unavailable in the US. Sylvania sells the brand again, but I do not know if the quality is where it was before Osram got bought out.

I hope this issue gets figured out, lighting is such an easy place for homeowners to save energy.
