Outback 3048 with turbo [RE-wrenches]

Travis, I second your best surge inverter pick: a DR3624 can reliably  
start a conventional 2 Hp well pump.
As far as Outbacks go, I've got 2 different installations with VFX  
pairs (one is 3648, one is 3524s) both running 3 Hp conventional well  
pumps (full surge, not Grundfos). We have good luck with the  
Outbacks, IMHO, an Outback VFX would out surge an SW4048, 0r SW5548,  
and it would be a close call compared to an SW4024. The SW+s seem to  
have good surge capability (better than SW48v) too.
BTW, I just tested a Magnum 612 that was rated for 1100 watts for 1  
sec., we measured a sustained 1500 watts for close to a minute. I'm  
initially  impressed.
