Outback inverter actual ratings [RE-wrenches]

I have heard the "valve cover" was designed for the original, non-vented 
FX inverters.

You are correct, the cover not only restricts air flow but actually 
causes the air intake fan to suck up some of the warm air exiting the 
inverter vents... so not the best design for optimal cooling. I removed 
mine and it dropped the "temp counts" significantly.
