IMO this is the biggest wart with the Outback grid intertied inverter. 
Only one AC input? What about the 99% of grid tie customers who want 
generator backup for their RE back up system?

I think the DC genny kludge is unfortunately at present the only real 
usable option. I have not done one of these, but as I understand it, the 
120 VAC generator output goes to a 2:1 step down transformer, where it 
is rectified and slammed into an MX60 for battery charging. The only 
other option is an external transfer switch on the AC output of the 
inverter to switch the backed up loads from the inverter to the genny.
