Sanyo HIT panels in off grid app [RE-wrenches]

Ron Young wrote about getting "mired down" with the voltage
calculations, temperature factors, etc., when doing string sizing for a
battery charging type controller.

Mick says: The Xantrex XW charge controller accepts a maximum open
circuit input voltage of 150, versus 140 for the Outback MX. There's a
nice temperature compensated string sizing tool at the XW website which
does all the code related math for you. Look under the Downloads column
to find this. The sizing tool works much the same as the tools for
string sizing with Fronius or other grid tie inverters.

The XW sizing tool allows for two Sanyo 200's in series only if the
record low temperature is 12 degrees F or higher. This is because of all
the code derations and fudge factors which an alert code inspector might
impose. If the system is not being inspected with close attention to
detail, common sense might also come into play.
