gas generator recommendations [RE-wrenches]

Speaking of auto start... it seems like most of you set up systems to do 
this... but I wonder why? I would never do this because it takes the 
customer out of the loop. I'd rather have a client looking at the 
battery SOC, weather forecast and loads to make the decision about when 
to charge via fossil fuels... plus the whole idea of a generator auto 
starting while no one is home sounds like a recipe for problems... and 
maybe even a fire.
