telephone lightning arrestors [RE-wrenches]

The UPS for my computer has phone receptacles which are supposed to 
protect against surge.  As I recall there is a warranty of many 
thousands of dollars should equipment damage occur due to 
surges.  The unit is a Cyber Power 585 AVR.
