And three years ago I was pretty burned out. I had just lost a key employee,
and having previously lost others as well, wasn't looking to start over
again (and again). I tried to sell part (the off-grid part, which was
wearing me out) of the business I had started. I quietly sent a letter to
Carl Bickford, head of the RE program at San Juan College. I ended up with
two equal (bought in) partners, and it has turned out to have been a great
change. I'm less stressed, and making about the same income. I can do more
of the techweenie stuff and PV proselytizing that I enjoy, and less of the
management that was a burden. As we grow and specialize, I'm doing most of
the off-grid jobs, along with upgrades and weird stuff, and enjoying the
role. And the business is less dependent on just me: if I get hit by a train
tomorrow, the business will go on without me, so it's life insurance for my
family.

Every rule is defined by its exceptions, I guess.
