Roofing Question [RE-wrenches]

I used to install solar thermal systems here that long ago. We did 
metal, comp, and hot tared flat roofs. This was long before all the high 
tech sealants were around. "Back then" we used "Henry's", you know the 
black tar goop? Never had a leak yet.
