An engineer customer recently asked me, "What should I look for when I shop
for an inverter/battery system for either off-grid or on-grid with a backup
generator?" In addition to the obvious (specifications, features, price) I
added:
- warranty and how warranty claims are handled,
- monitoring and das capabilities,
- manufacturer and product track record,
- how many fielded units?
- mtbf,
- quirks and problems,
- genset compatibility,
- weight and how shipped,
- ease in installation and startup,
- completeness - are additional parts needed?
- telephone tech service available.

What else do you and your technically savvy customers look for?
