Outback with Sunnyboy [RE-wrenches]

Drake,
I have been doing the same thing for a couple of years. The only thing
to have to add is a way to turn off the output of the Sunnyboy when the
batteries are fully charged and the grid is down.
This is necessary when the grid is down because the inverters will
charge batteries with the excess power generated through the array
through the Sunnyboy. Since you are feeding ac into the output of the
Outback inverters, there is not charging control. I used the auxiliary
12 volt output to power a relay between the Sunny boy and the sub panel
so that when the batteries reach a full charge voltage, the relay opens
and the Sunnyboy thinks the grid is down and turns off. The relay will
close when the batteries drop in voltage and the Sunnyboy will think the
grid is back on and its will send power to the sub panel again. Voltage
setting will depend on the type of battery you are using. This system
works great because you get the efficiency of the Sunnyboy plus backup
power.
David
