Series Parallel PV in Battery systems [RE-wrenches]

Damian,

All battery systems require series string fusing regardless of the number of
strings in parallel. The batteries provide a source for fault currents.
The fusing is intended to protect the modules from these potential fault
currents.

The purpose of fusing is to protect the internal wires of the modules.
If the module is rated for 15amp series, or in some cases like the sharp
167 where it is a 10amp rating. What you need to prevent is in the
event of a short if all the strings minus the one string that the short
would enter into is greater than the amp series max of the module than
you need fusing. A battery system with 2 strings is likely not to need
fusing if the two strings are less than the series rating of the module
(isc x 1.56). Battery systems in general tend to be more likely
candidates because the wiring is high amp at low voltage
