Whe had this discussion with a local inspector who agreed that it must be EMT, IMT, or rigid.   However, since the entrance for us was going to be through a low sloping roof, we felt it was better to go with the threaded rigid since the run was very short to the first dis-connect and we felt thinwall EMT would not last long if we just tried to seal around it at a roof penetration without other protection. On high voltage DC arrays I sleep better at night knowing some homeowner would have a much harder time driving a nail throught a metal conduit when trying to hang a picture!
