composting toilet design [RE-wrenches]

Hi Windy,

Many of the rest areas along rural sections of Interstate highways use
composting toilet systems. If memory serves, the rest area in NM, along
I-40 about 3 miles before crossing the AZ line, is one of them. I've seen
(used) them in CA, AZ, NM, NV, & MT personally. I first noticed them about
12 or 13 years ago.

I did a quick Google for < Interstate Rest Areas composting toilets > and
found that they are actually used at rest areas in many regions... Cold
country, too. (SD, VT, MA, ME for instance). I'd say that would be a clue
to get started with due to the high traffic capacity. Perhaps the USDOT has
some published standards, approved vendors, etc. to help with your
situation... (www.FHWA.dot.gov) Or, stop into one of your local composting
rest areas and get the info off the equipment that's already there.

As most of us here are probably aware, local regulations may or may not
allow C-Toi's... They are considered "experimental".... Hmmmm. Even one of
the most tree-hugginest counties in the country prohibits them (Marin, CA)
for residential or commercial use. I don't know about your Eco-Versity
application... Probably would want to check into that before getting too
invested in it.

I don't know how "local" regulations play in the rest area applications.
Maybe they get a "free pass" 'cause they're FED projects...???

Best of luck.
