Kaneka GSA? [RE-wrenches]

Brian,

I'm not clear on why you can't put 3 strings on an H361 (not HU361--"U"
stands for unfused) into a single inverter. You could also put 6 Kaneka
strings on a single inverter as well using the 3 or 3.5 amp IDSR fuse. As
you point out, it is the only 600Vdc Square D switch that is listed for
double lugging so you can use it as a combiner by daisy chaining the output
of the switch as long as the total current is within the rating of the lugs.

Bill.

Doug,

Just to clarify:

If I'm reading the Square-D spec sheet correctly, the HU361RB fused switch
is not UL rated to act as a combiner for output to a single inverter, so it
can't be used to "combine" three strings. The lugs are rated to accept two
#12 or #10 wires, so you can combine two strings per pole, but each pole has
to output to separate inverters, not to one inverter. The fused version is
also only rated to carry 80% of it's rating (the non-fusible unit is rated
at 100% duty)

Here's a link to the Square-D HU361RB white paper:

http://www.sma-america.com/ftp/Square%20D%20HU361RB.pdf

The SMA Combi-Switch comes with 10A fuses, and larger fuses are not allowed.
This means that when using modules with an SC amp rating of more then 6.4A
(10A divided by 1.56 = 6.41A) you have to use a separate combiner. This
wouldn't be an issue with the Kaneka module, but since this module is only
60W, you will likely have more then four strings anyway.
