Fellow wrenches,
I looked at a job today with a SIP roof. It is 1/2 Avantek on inside
and outside with 9" of foam sandwiched between. It is a post and beam
garage with roof space of 32'X18'.
The customer would like a +/- 4kw grid tied array.
Has anyone worked with this type of roof and developed a dependable,
high quality way to attach solar arrays to it. I was thinking of getting
some 3/16 galvanized steel stock, possibly 4" wide and spanning the
width of the mount and mounting the mounting feet on top of one piece
while sandwiching the roof by placing another matching piece of steel on
the inside (it's storage space for the garage). I would then use
galvanized steel or stainless steel threaded rod to "through-bolt" the
mount/steel stock/sip roof/steel stock with appropriate hardware. I do
worry about compressing the roof.
Wisdom/two cents anyone? Thanks for any help with this. I could just
walk away from it if I can't do it right.
