If I understand this correctly, Darryl is trying to charge batteries on
a grid tied Outback system. Since Outback inverters only have one AC
input connection, you cannot connect grid AND generators like the old SW
series... and even if you use an outboard xfer switch, the FX
electronics window for acceptable AC power input is so tight most
generators will not work.

So Darryl came up with an ingenious idea to send the 120 volt AC output
of the genny through a step down xmfr, full wave rectifier stack and to
the batteries via a MX60. This allows the ability to generator charge
the batteries in a FX Outback inverter system... creative and probably
fine to do, but if OB provided two AC inputs like the old SW's had we
would have a much cleaner and simpler solution to this issue.

I love the Outback inverters and other gear, but feel designing them 
with only one AC input was a step backwards.
