Cistern gauge [RE-wrenches]

Hello Wrenches,

I have used a water pressure gauge in the basement to monitor the level of
water in a cistern but how do you meter the level of water in a cistern
downhill from an off grid house with no basement? The cistern in question is
filled by running a 240vac deep well pump with the genny and a float switch
to turn the pump off.

I have enjoyed the favorite tool thread, most of my favorites mentioned.
One that I did not see mentioned I picked up from an earlier post is the
pesticide sprayer modified for battery filling, works great.
