Unfortunately I can't get a tube into the single cells that I have here
to test for stratification. I believe I first heard about it at a Trojan
workshop.

On another front, the fastest I have ever seen a set of batteries ruined
was a 40 cell 80 volt 510 AH pack that was ruined in 6 months.
This battery had flip top caps (can't blame the caps).

The owners were using an adapter to a water hose (tap water) and filling
through the caps instead of removing the caps. This caused the water to
fill to the top of the cells very time they were filled. Of course they
overflowed (every time) and no one thought this was unusual, despite
having had an identical pack for 7 years with no problems.
I have never seen a concrete floor that looked like this one, burned and
pitted as much as 3/4" deep in spots!

They were not interested in acid balancing the pack and trying to save
it, they at this point just wanted it replaced.
Another thing that turned up is that they had 2 pointer type hydrometers
and they were off calibration by 50 points. (I found out the hard way)
Spend the money and buy 2 glass hydrometers with floats. A worker and a
spare for when you screw up and break one.....

Have a great weekend,
Bob
