Hello Wrenches,
Thanks for the information on Two Phase systems. It is an amazing concept
to have maximum power come from the peaks of 2 sine waves, 90 degrees
apart, and then not attain another maximum power pulse for 270
degrees. From further reading on the subject, it looks like these systems
use separate coils, often on different armatures that are mechanically
connected, to generate the separate phases.
The neutrals may or may not tie together. Neutral current may come from an
end point of each phase, or from the midpoints of the phases, bonded
together. Neutral current is 1.41 (square root of two) times the phase
current, but cancels out when the loads on the two phases are balanced.
