I don't know about Brand X, but I have heard from the folks at Outback that their grid tied, battery based systems are comparable to sunny boys in conversion efficiency. The caveat is what kind and how many a/h the battery bank is as large, lead antimony wet cell banks would eat some of the power up.
I am sure the Outback guys can document this.
