If you are going to go with 3 big Sharps in series, you should be using the
600Vdc Bussman fuse holders and at least 250Vdc fuses (I recently saw my
170Vdc Bussman UL-listed telecom fuses at Home Depot--they might work as
well although they may be slightly different dimensions than than the midget
fuse).

  This is the same way we do our systems; 3 big Sharps in series, an OB 
Combiner and then the OB DC with thier breakers. We did have one instance of

the MX 60 failing though, perhaps because of a high voltage spike thanks to 
edge-of-cloud effect on a cold morning.

  Outback was very quick to help us out with this by sending a new unit that

they had burned-in on the bench. No problems since.

  breakers are limited to 125 Vdc, so going with the Bussman tilt-out fuses

  the most sense and reduces the wiring by about half (less wires and

  For off grid work I use either 6 or 9 panels top of pole rack.

  That way I can do 3  x 24v panels in series with the MX 60 ( 48v battery
  only though).

  Less wires, circuit breakers and smaller wire.
