Gator Tom,
A draindown system will beat this using one circulator.
That circulator will last longer than the one on the collector side (by
my observations.)
I stand corrected, there is a marginal increase in preformance using
drainbacks with fresh water(not anti-freeze). This is explanable because
water has a higher (25%?) specific heat over antifreeze. I haven't found
the reduced reliability to be worth it. Just my experience....

thanks,
Conrad Geyser
Cotuit Solar

Absolutely wrong, The small drainback 10-15 gallon reservoirs with finned
copper heat exchangers that are spiraled on the inside by AET that are
double pumped with a TACO 009 on the solar loop and a 003 on the water loop
are the highest performing drainback systems ever tested by third parties.
> This double pump drainback system with reservoir heat exchanger approaches
95% heat efficiency compared to an open loop system. No other system has
come close to this efficiency. The double pumped drainback system with a
finned copper heat exchanger in a 10 or 15 gallon reservoir is an extremely
high-performing system due to the water falling into the reservoir creating
turbulent flow around the finned copper heatexchanger.
