As I recall, NiFE batteries are very durable, serviceable, and
robust but have drawbacks:
-relatively low power (high internal resistance)... probably fine
  if you design for a ~5+ hr discharge rate
-they require fairly aggressive charging (leads to next point)
-they are a wet cell, dissociate non-trial amounts of water in
  charging, so they require significant watering
-they are relatively inefficient, both from the high charging
  voltage (eg, 1.6 Vpc), low discharge voltage (eg, 1.0 Vpc),
  and coulomb losses from overcharge (perhaps 20%)
