Sorry the truth is there has never been a net energy gain ever in the total
embedded energy of manufacturing a pv module .There never has been
manufactured a pv module that will result in a net energy gain compared
to he energy embedded in mining glass aluminum etc --- please review the
work of HowardOdum --- COST RECOVERY in utility savings does equal
recovering the embedded cost from mining to installed module gator tom

Thank you all for the info. Todd is right that the Home Power article is the
best plain language analysis. I can't find anything better from Knapp,
Alsema or others since year 2000. In summary:
1. Once produced, PV consumes nothing and emits nothing other than
electricity produced from light.
2. PV embedded energy payback time is substantially less than its expected
lifetime.
3. Amorphous thin-film PV has an energy payback time of less than 2 years.
