Barbra,
Regarding degradation over time, I posed that question directly to Sanyo
and I received a graph with data representing Sanyo's public position.
I will forward that to you offline and anyone else who is curious.
Randy

Bill -
I understand where you are coming from. And thank you for letting us
know that the product did come off distributor shelves. That had been
bothering a few of us in California when the inverters were reviewed.

Barbara,
Your opinion and experience is extremely important and valuable. I was
simply asking for where you were getting such exact numbers. Those
numbers line up with the CEC/STC ratios, but those ratios are simply
based upon the stated temperature coefficients of the module
manufacturers. The Sanyo modules have a lower temperature dependence
(about -0.32%/C whereas standard crystalline is about -0.5%/C).
To answer your question about selection of product for the PIER program,
all of the products were purchased through distributors and not directly
from the manufacturer. It is highly unlikely that preselection occurred
on these products because the modules were purchased at the beginning of
the module shortage when everyone started getting concerned about supply
shortages.
Bill.

Bill, we were asked for an opinion and I gave mine with some actual
experience as backup. I rely on your sector for impartial scientific
data. To further address your comments as far as the efficiency goes,
yes partly. Also looking at cell efficency they are at 19%. It is the
power tolerances that really set them apart. As a result of the hand
slapping, their product power tolerances are unmatched, which results in
better output estimates, and a higher confidence in output estimating.
We have seen manufacturers actually expanding their power tolerances to
plus/minus 10%. Wheras Sanyo reduced their power tolerances.
My only inquiry into what is being tested by the pier group is whether
or not the product being tested is provided by the manufacturer or
pulled off the shelf at the distributer/retailer level? Assumming that
product is provided by the manufacturer, is it the same as what is on
the shelf?
