Hi Dan and Darryl,

There are upgrades available for older SW's, now at version 4.3 or 4.16
depending on who listed the inverter (ETL, UL or CSA)

Generally the SW (and family) will stop the crank signal when the AC
voltage, as measured on the inverter's terminals, reaches about 80Vac. A
tripped breaker or bad connection between the Gen and inverter will
cause the starter to stay engaged longer, but the gen would never be
able to connect to the inverter in that case anyway.

Cheers,

Allan and Darryl,

Not sure if it matters in your situation, Darryl, but if you're
considering a chip upgrade in your customer's SW, or if the inverter has
software Rev 4.01, upgrade to Rev 4.10. Rev 4.01 has a bug in the
generator exercise routine. You can set up the exercise interval in the
menu, but the inverter never initiates an exercise sequence. I know this
is a problem for 2-wire start systems, so it may also be a problem with
3-wire start systems. I never saw a reference to this problem in Trace
literature, nor does the 4.10 software upgrade instructions or
associated documentation mention the problem or that Rev 4.10 fixes it.
Trace/Xantrex tech support told me of this flaw and fix during a
troubleshooting phone call a couple of years back. Might there also be a
software bug with 3-wire starting? By the way, Xantrex provided the
complete 4.10 upgrade chip sets (for several individual and stacked
pairs of inverters) at no charge, based on it being a manufacturing
defect on their part. That was three years ago.
