William,
I can't imagine that the MM5000 on your shelf is worth much to anyone
unless Beacon Power would give you something. One way to get some use
out of it might be to install it on this customer's array (if you aren't
happy with the salvage offer from Beacon). You might get a few years out
of it, or not! It will probably fail (like the other ones) and then you
will be out there again.

To install the SW outside you would probably be looking at getting the
PM enclosures and remotes for the SW (and GTI). The Outback is an option
that would perform well and be outdoor rated if you can get a PS1 setup
soon.

One other option you might not have considered is replacing the MM5000
with a Beacon M5. This should be the easiest swap from the mechanical
standpoint. This product has had major improvements in hardware and
software from the patchwork upgraded MM5000's. We have supplied more
than a few of these units to failed MM sites and have had no problems
with any of them (knock on wood). We have one on the wall at our
facility that has been working reliably since it's installation over a
year ago. If you puchased the original MM5000 from us, we will do our
very best to make this the most affordable solution. Please contact me
offline if you would like to explore this option; it may give the
customer a reliable and more seemless fix when compared to the other
choices you have discussed.
