Greetings all,

We've been doing off-grid houses with in-floor radiant heat with great
success when the heating load is light enough to allow the use of a
direct vent (not power vented) hot water heater and March and El Sid DC
circulating pumps. These heating systems draw between 15 and 30 watts
and only while supplying heat and an inverter isn't even required!

I'm doing a slightly larger home that is not extremely well insulated
and such a heater probably won't cut it, at least not while also
supplying domestic hot water (limited space in utility room as well).

I spec'd the PV system when the space was smaller and better insulated
than the finished home is turning out to be, so throwing a few thousand
extra at the array to power a standard boiler in low winter light
conditions isn't an option right now.

Anyone have suggestions for LP gas water heating appliances that do not
require 120vac and may offer higher BTU ratings than the 50k input we've
used in the past?

BTW, in smaller homes we have had good luck with American Water Heater's
Pro-line residential direct vent which is sealed combustion and vents
thru a side wall.

Much thanks in advance

Kurt Nelson
