I just blew an mx-60 going from 72 down to 24... software patch is on the
way and I will report.
Re: the different arrays (and different panel MPP characteristics) in
different locations with different wire home runs - My instinct would be to
keep each array on separate charge controllers - perhaps living with the old
one for the existing array if the budget wouldn't support twin Mx-60s. To
follow up on instinct one could pencil out the lost potential PV production
and MPPT advantage and balance it against extra cost... I guess it is amps,
not voltage that takes a dive with shading, but I still expect losses from
mismatched panels and wire home runs... What say ye wrenches? split the
arrays or bond them?

Subject: two arrays
Hi Wrenches.
I am looking for a little advice. My customer has a project with
an existing array of six 53-watt 12-volt panels 150 feet from the
24-volt inverter/batteries, with #4 copper wire to the array. The
array is in a fair amount of shade in winter. We are planning on
adding a second array of four 165-watt 24-volt panels located in
better winter sun about 230 feet away from the first array. We plan
to use an MX-60 controller for voltage conversion and MPPT. What is
the best arrangement (parallel, series, parallel/series, etc.) of all
10 panels for wiring to the MX-60 controller and 24-volt
inverter/batteries?
Thank you.
