That is the rub on the L-16 Vs the L-16 HC the cycle life is lower on the
HC's but the AH is higher as is the price.
I don't remember the actual # of cycles but it seems that it was 20% or so
lower for
the L-16HC.

I have 8 L-16's (Trojan) here that have been beaten for 9 years and are near
death, they have done well!

My Trojan supplier was really pushing HCs when they first came on the
scene a few years back. They sounded like the answer to the gap between
portable batteries and big stationary types from all the wild claims that
Trojan was making. - WRONG!

I turns out that HCs actually have thinner plates than the standard L-16.
What a hoot!
They charged more for them, said they were superior to the standard duty
and charged more. Go figure.

Now when I go to this same distributor they talk about HCs like only
morons would buy them in the first place. Last time I went in he asked if he
could bid IBEs for my next job and asked my opinion on Surrette. These guys
must have been shoe salesmen in a previous incarnation.

That is good to know about the HC. One bank that died was definitely not
HC. In other systems, I've seen standard L - 16s not lasting anywhere
near
  the 10 year rating.

Didn't Sandia do a test of L-16s several years back that demonstrated that
they did not really live up to their advertised potential?

I've found the T-105 batteries to be incredibly tough. I agree that they
are too small for big systems.
