Allen--- I have similar experience with a used softub that survived the
winter of 2002 at 4500' in the Allegheny Mountains of VA while the site was
inaccessible, but grid connected, although power outages were probable.
Drifting snow likely encased it. Cover is a little the worse for wear due to
freeze /thaw. Protective UV cover blown off by wind. Its is functioning
perfectly to date. Another manufacturer is at www.comfortlineproducts.com .

Your experience is a great example of the synergy between energy
conservation of all kinds and solar electric systems. Also true for passive
solar bulidings and solar, solar/wood, hot water and heat systems ,as well
as passive cooling strategies such as shade cloth and trees. Ken

I own a SofTub which uses about 90 kwh/month on average. Live in
Vermont and it sits outdoors year round and we get to -20F in the winter.
It is basically a vinyl lined foam donut and is very comfortable for 2-3
people, can be easily moved and is super efficient. The AC pump motor
is water jacketed so it filters and heats with the same energy. The pump
is inside a foam canister.

Regular hot tubs are huge energy hogs.
