You will need about 20 watts of power when you start running glycol under
no surumtances use more than a 50% glycol solution your check valve should
be just above the pump --I suggest increasing pressure about 48 psi on the
system pressure and 38 psi on the expansion tank to prevent vapor lock in
your loop your pressures are ok now however higher pressure will help I sug
gest--a Sparco powervent on your recirculation loop and an expansion tank
and maybe a water hammer shock arrestotor gator tom--- Original

Kurt, Alan, etc.

Thanks for the responses concerning SID pumps.

If the pumps do normally make some noise, having the pumps plumbed in copper
and rigidly attached with uni-strut to hollow framing may be the biggest
issue although there is rubber isolation tape around the pipe under the
uni-strut clamps.

The water used in the systems and for static head testing(pump with pex
tubing) was softened but still contains some iron and salt. Perhaps these
particles are contributing to the noise.

I will try further isolation/insulation measures and running a
glycol/distilled water fluid and of course air elimination.

Gator Tom,

Ps=28psi, Pt=18psi, deltaT=10f, collector area= 32sq.ft, 3/4 copper,
collector 25' above tank. Currently the sdhw has straight water but will be
replaced with a glycol solution for Montana winter. System voltage varies
as the power system battery bank but pump testing was done with voltage
around 25 volts. Current with solar charging measured .37a @27.2v gives
10w.

Thanks

Oscar
