Kurt,

Yeah, that would be basically the model used at RISO in Denmark and the
Institute of Aeronautics in Belgrade, among others. One problem for many
companies though is having to send a complete system off somewhere far, far
away. Any adjustments or trouble-shooting then becomes a real problem. When
installations are within a days drive of the factory it makes it easier to
deal with.

There are plenty of factors that influence the quality of wind. But wouldn't
it be beneficial to have a broad sampling of results from diverse sites
instead of just one? I think it might even help manufacturers and sellers
(and government agencies) in evaluating turbine and tower issues.

If a battery charging system were being monitored it would be logical to
include state of charge, temperature and load data into the formula. Since
grid connected and stand-alone battery charging systems have different types
of needs for monitoring performance, there should be a distinct recording
device, or at least adjustable to accommodate various input information.

Or?

Hey Matt and all,

While I think this is a very important issue, it is also way complex.
For instance, I would imagine there may be different interactions
between a grid-tied wind generator and a battery based one, and in a
battery based system there may exist variations due to state-of-charge,
general condition and size of the battery, as well as load diversion
complexities. Ambient air temperature is another biggie. Plus each
site comes with its own topographical situations that can have a big
impact on such comparisons.

I'm thinking the machines would need to be set up at the exact same site
and under the exact same conditions to get any truly valuable
comparisons.
