David,
Yanmar is a good engine, but is the whole set made by them?
Using bio-Diesel might void warranties, but it's a good thing to do regardless. Depending on where she lives, there may need to be a fuel heater to prevent gelling in the winter; not an easy task with such a small PV system (if the fuel is heated electrically).
