Question for someone experienced with Grundfos SQ-FLEX [RE-wrenches]

Hi Steve,

We have two US Campgrounds on solar water pumping systems. One's an ETA Pump
System and the other is a Sunrise Submersible. These were both developed in
the 1960's with spring water feeding 5000 gallon holding tanks and then
gravity feeding the campgrounds. Both campgrounds have 60 to 70 sites and
one is extremely busy all summer.

The main concern, and how we got involved, is the springs became
contaminated and required decommissioning. The feed pipe on one site was 2"
hot dip galv, running 1/2 mile to the tank, this washed out along the creek,
in a flood and needed replacement too.

Vandalism is a constant concern of the Forest Service too. We were able to
put the solar array 700' away from the well at one job, to get it out of
site. We do tall pole mounts.

These are simple, reliable systems, and the campground hosts, as all repairs
are subcontracted out now to private companies, don't have to be fiddling
with the system. They do have to drain them in the fall, shutting off the PV
array and pump controller, and then turn them on in the spring, flushing the
system at the tanks, with bleach, per the health department. They have their
hands full with all the other chores of running a campground and simple is
better.

With a properly sized holding tank and an oversized array on an ETA Pump
you're in business, they're happy and not calling you out on the 4th of July
to trouble shoot the system somebody messed up.

I'd stay away from a hydro system in this sort of public site. They're too
easy to foul up, and the host doesn't know until there's no water coming out
of the faucet.

Sincerely,

Chris Worcester
