I assume everyone who does off grid installation does know about these
inverter generators that have been out for a few years? If you don't check
them out. Quiet, powerful and VERY clean power. Yamaha and Honda both make
them and they sure fit the bill for a lot of what our customers would use
them for. I've yet to see an inverter that just didn't lock and charge at
full rated amps (of the generator) with no problem. Just recently I noticed
that Yamaha has one with a battery boost feature. Has anyone got their
hands on one of them yet? Let me know what you think.

Robin-Subaru makes a line of small (3 kW to 5 kW) diesel generators - I
almost bought one a year ago - looked pretty good - weighed about 140
pounds though.

They are popular with some of the long haul truckers for power/heat for
sleeper cabs and apparently have worked well in that application -
fairly severe vibration and lots of run hours.

Robin-Subaru also just cam out with a line of inverter-type generators
as well - no idea haow well they work.
