>Hey Geoff,

I took your advice and I think I'll be able to add that NABCEP certificate
to my degree in engineering. Did you actually have some constructive
criticism or technical comment to make or were you just being goofy?
I was using the 2% rule for PV array wire sizing back in the 80's, and I
thought now it was time to progress.
There basically are two different approaches: the electrician checks volt
drop, the engineer takes it to a full project lifetime benefit-cost
analysis. We both start with Ohm's law.
For PV arrays, its really NOT volt drop, its power loss. Volt drop is more
of a load side concern, where certain equipment malfunctions if the voltage
sags too far below its nominal input rating. We have always just used the
same calculations for lack of nothing better.
My job is to question, push the envelope a little, and get you guys to
think outside the box sometimes. To really bring solar into the mainstream,
we have to continue to improve the longevity and energy output of our
systems while bringing DOWN the cost. My previous posts were meant to open
a dialog.
I welcome your input, corrections, mild insults, etc., just back your
statements up with some facts.

Thanks,

Ray Walters
