Wrenches,
This is a good clarification on MC cables.

Allan:

On the wrenches web site, I think you and Bill Brooks may be talking
about two different MC cables.

Many in the PV industry say MC Cables when they mean USE-2 single
conductor cables with MultiContact Connectors.

Type MC cable in the Code is a manufactured Metal-Clad Cable with
conductors installed in a flexible metal jacket. See NEC Article
330. If it is installed in wet/outdoor locations, it must be
specifically indentified for such use.

Tray cable, Type TC is generally a suitable cable that can be used to
meet the 690.35 requirement for multiconductor jacketed cables on
ungrounded PV systems starting in 2005. It has been around for many
years, is generally marked sunlight resistant and has a 90°C wet
insulation rating. I do not believe that it will be compatible with
a single conductor MultiContact connector and will therefore require
direct wiring to module jboxes. ASE Americas modules were at one
time listed with a two-conductor tray cable and a two-conductor
connector (the Alden, Pulse Lock).

UL hopefully will have a new double-insulated PV cable standard
available and single conductor, double insulated cables will be
available by the time ungrounded inverters are ready for PV systems.
It will be some time before California adopts the 2005 NEC.
