Greetings all,
I have a DC generator similar to the design in HP#2. A Honda horizontal
shaft engine and a Chrysler 70 amp alternator with a resistor in line to
the field to hold the output to 80% of full rated power.
Question: Someone once told me this exact generator can be used to
charge a 24 volt battery as well as a 12 volt. The feeling was that if
you excite the field with 24VDC it will put out 24VDC. Before I chance
the deal with the smoke, I thought I'd ask if anyone has done this. Are
the Diodes rated for the higher charging voltage?
Thoughts appreciated -- Kurt Nelson
