Joel - 

A single OutBack MX60 will work well for your application - it will 
handle over 3000 watts of PV array with 48 vdc battery systems -   
maximum PV array open circuit voltage of 140 VDC as well.  The MX60 is 
also easily swapped with an old C40 controller - the knockouts and 
mounting holes just "happened" to be in the same locations and no change 
in the negative/grounded conductor wiring is required.
