Hi Steve,
In 1982, a few months before I moved back to Los Angeles to work for Wm.
Lamb Co. North Hollywood, the warehouse was broken into and solar modules
were stolen. I installed my PV array on the roof to power my office,
connected the newly installed burglar alarm to the array and put a warning
sign on the array. I have to think that this detered thieves in this high
crime neighborhood as the array remained untouched until I took it down in
1978.
Best regards,
Joel Davidson

For array security its possible to run a small dummy loop wire through the
array wiring, which, when cut, activates an alarm. Nearly any auto or home
alarm with DC powering can be activated this way. A few have radio paging
built in to set off a beeper within half a mile. Others easily activate a
phone dialer with recorded message. Problem is when the area is completely
uninhabited and no phone lines.
