The transistion from Grid to Inverter and Inverter to Grid are both
fully phase synchronized - so very little flicker is noticeable and we
have tested it with loads operating without any issues. It is at least
as good as a SW. With the OutBack inverters we also have coordinated the
operation of the inverter's AC transfer switches from the Master to the
Slaves - so you won't have issues with one leg of the AC system on
inverter while the other AC leg is still on the utility grid...

If your grid voltage typically varies much from 120 VAC then the
switchover either way will be a little more noticeable, as we don't
match the AC voltages before transfering - but you can use or field
calibration adjustment ability to tweek it up or down a few AC volts to
match the relative trend of your utility power. Even if this is not done
the amout of flicker would be similar to a fridge start or other medium
sized AC load with grid power.
