Marco,

The real alternative is Unisolar PVL. No penetrations and no wind
problems.

Subject: the S-5 solution to standing seam roofs? [RE-wrenches]

Here in Aloha land we've got a lot of standing seam metal roofs. Rather
than going down through the flat part of the metal roof to attach PV
mounting hardware into a structural member (i.e., steel z-bar purlins),
one
seemingly attractive option would be to use this S-5 clamp from Dynamic
Fastener. The S-5 clamp is essentially a machined block of aluminum
which
bites down on the standing seam with a couple of SS bolts. The mounting
rails are then bolted down onto the S-5 block. Have any of you all used
this kind of hardware? Have any of you had any engineering done on it
in
terms of pull-off strength in 80+ MPH winds? Intuitively, this
attachment
means SEEMS pretty solid especially when the alternative is lots of roof
penetrations into the flat parts of the metal roof. (FYI: we get an
average
of 130 inches rain/year here in humid Hilo.) But then doing commmerical
PV
systems based on intuition is not a real smart idea...

aloha, marco
