The lowest cost solution for an AC Utility Visible Disconnect is a standard
air-conditioning t-handle pull-type switch. They are available in fused and
unfused and 30A and 60A are very common. If you back-feed through two-pole
circuit breakers, then you don¹t need the fused variety. All utilities in
Southern California that I work with only allow this pull-type of disco or
the more expensive type with an external handle. And since they are rarely
operated, the pull-type makes the most economic sense.
I saw the pull-type at Home Depot recently for under $8/unit.
