Todd & Brothers...
> Sorry to raise this ugly issue again, but I am dialoguing with some
folks that insist that PV's never recoup their embedded energy. Can this
possible have merit?
One of my favorites here....
How many kilocals go into mining coal, oil and other fossil fuels? How
many go into mining uranium and other radioactive isotopes?
Think about it.... It's not just the "fuel" consumed during the actual
mining. It's also the "fuel" consumed to mine & harvest the raw
materials (iron, rubber, petrochemicals for plastics, copper for wiring,
etc.) to manufacture and install the equipment and infrastructure to
make the equipment that does the "harvesting".... It takes a whole lot
more steel and rubber to make those gigantic earth-movers, trains,
pipelines and semis that haul them than it does to harvest sand!
What about the raw materials and infrastructure to construct and operate
the manufacturing plants that manufacture all those pieces? And the gas
consumed by all the people it takes to run them just getting to work
every day? And the raw materials to build all those cars? And all the
homes those people must live in?
How many kilocals go into building "traditional" power plants? And
operating them? That's ongoing consumption....Until it breaks and needs
to be replaced, of course. Then there is the decommissioning and
re-construction, of course...............
There is a whole lot less infrastructure, people and raw materials
required to produce PV than any of those!
Kiss my Solar Tanned Green Ass! (Not you guys here!)
Oh, don't forget to Pray for Sun!
