McGraw Edison Ni-Cads (KOH electrolyte) [RE-wrenches]

We got a call from a large off grid owner who had installed 24 of these NiFe
cells 2 years ago. He was never able to get enough charge in them and the
charge would never last long. He had a large array but no backup generator
or grid, so they stayed at low voltage all of the time.

Although they do have a long life and you can replace the electrolyte to
improve performance, the high standby losses, higher maintenance, and poor
performance drove the owner to replace with low maintenance gell cells (cost
was not the issue).

As for me, I hope I never see these things again.
