Inverters for GT with Batteries [RE-wrenches]

Back to Allen's original question, I guess that none of us have found any
alternatives to Outback or it's evil step father (did I say that?).

So, who else is coming down the line? I've heard of a couple of European
companies that offer battery based PV inverters such as SMA, and Fronius.
Are their US divisions planning on creating a US version? What about GE?
Heck, why isn't Xantrex trying harder to make one?

The Multimode was a great concept. Since I am a bit naive I actually
installed a couple. If Chris is right, and there were only about 100 made, I
guess I installed 3% of all of them!!! I've had nothing but trouble with
them, though like most of my cars, when they worked, they worked great. I
loved the features such as zero grid current used for float charging (it
used PV-DC directly for this, what a concept!), MPPT selling, and very
elaborate (though not idiot-proof) PC monitoring with things like a written
event log. The latter was absolutely essential for me to continue my unpaid
field R&D for AES while trying to serve my customers who I sold them to! I
am waiting for Beacon's offering since they have promised to provide an
"upgrade" option for the existing MM customers out there. This will at least
allow me to gain field experience with them without selling them to new
customers. I am not planning them for new jobs at this point, until I get
these old customers working again. Anyone heard about this??

So, anyone else out there on the horizon? If not, then Outback stands to
completely corner the market and dominate US grid-tied backup sales for
years to come, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of guys. If
this is not motivation enough for them to release a grid-tied option, I'm
not sure what else is. Certainly not our harassment!

Cheers,

Jason Fisher
