You should check the RMS voltage and peak AC voltage when the inverter 
is running with a light and heavy load.  The RMS voltage should be 
120VAC +/- 10V under all conditions but the peak voltage should be 
between 180V and 140V. There are a couple of failure modes that can 
result in the behavior you are seeing.  

Most likely it needs a new FET board. Getting someone with a O-scope to 
check it is probably the best way to check it.
