Not sure we  need 10 arcane equations to prove whether PV is ok or not. 
Eric's point about net energy is more basic. A very disturbing book on energy in 
general is the Partys Over (reviewed in next HP). The author'sfocus on net 
energy- renewable or otherwise leads to some unpleasant conclusions. In short, the 
global economy has gotten to were it is based on a huge energy subsidy in the 
form of oil and gas. Plug in the economic consequences and the current path 
(globally) is not sustainable.
